My tooth felt better Wednesday evening, but I still kept waking up every four to five hours in pain because the Vicodin had worn off. Thursday was pretty much the same. I knew the pain was mostly from trauma from the dentist pulling the tooth. It took a while to get it out and my gums and lip felt sort of bruised. Then during the night last night, it started getting worse, worse than before. This morning I woke up and took a Vicodin at 5:30, then I went back to bed. I set my alarm for 8:30, and got up. The pain was excruciating. I called the dentist, which is why I had set my alarm. They got me in at 10:30.

The infection had not gone away, despite being on heavy antibiotics for five days. In fact, it was worse. I had a pocket of infection in my gum and she had to open it with a scalpel and press it out. I swear I have never had anything hurt this bad before - the pain was bad enough, but then she did that. I was almost crying when she got done.

Then I had to endure Wally World while I got prescriptions for a new antibiotic and more Vicodin filled. I also had to get groceries. I bought a Dr. Pepper and as soon as I got to the car, I took a Vicodin. Now I'm home and almost pain-free. The big test will be when I go to bed. I wear a CPAP mask that presses right on the sore spot, so I'm hoping it won't be too bad. Hopefully this fixes the problem.

Uh-oh, sweetie! So sorry to hear you're still uncomfortable. Somehow there's no pain quite like an infection in your mouth. I used to get them every year at tax time in the gums around my wisdom teeth, due to stress (working in an accounting office). Not as bad as you, for sure, but it was one of the worst pains I've had, so I can only imagine...

One thing you can try is mixing some hydrogen peroxide with water and swishing it around your mouth (spit it out afterwards, don't swallow it!). It will fizz up and works well as an antiseptic. Gets into all the nooks and crannies. My dentist had me buy a product called "Amosan" that's essentially the same stuff, comes in little individual dose pouches, but you can just use the hydrogen peroxide and it's way cheaper.

Salt water works well too, but that might sting, so I'd try the HP first - it doesn't hurt at all.

Hope you can get some rest tonight! *hugs*
