I was just reading an article from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Hurricane Center that Hurricane Sandy is going to move up the East Coast of the United States and wreak havoc. By the time she reaches the New Jersey/NYC area, she will be down to a tropical storm. But she could be bumping into an early winter storm coming from the west and a cold front from the North. I don't know if our area in Upstate NY will be getting any snow or if it will be just rain and high winds. We have a 10-20% chance for getting hit by the tropical storm. Here's part of the article:

The New York [City] area could see around 5 inches of rain during the storm, while there could be snow southwest of where it comes inland, Cisco said. That could mean snow in eastern Ohio, southwestern Pennsylvania, western Virginia, and the Shenandoah Mountains, he said.

Both private and federal meteorologists are calling this a storm that will likely go down in the history books.

"We don't have many modern precedents for what the models are suggesting," Cisco said.

It is likely to hit during a full moon when tides are near their highest, increasing coastal flooding potential, NOAA forecasts warn. And with some trees still leafy and the potential for snow, power outages could last to Election Day, some meteorologists fear.

I wonder just what will happen if the power is still out on Election Day in some areas and people in the East and Mid-West can't vote. Will they postpone the election? Will they let those people vote on a different day? I don't think this has ever happened before. I'm hoping it doesn't happen this year. Crazy! I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this very carefully over the weekend. It's supposed to start Sunday.
