Title - Send Me All Your Angels
Prompt - Making Deals w/Demons
Fandom - RPF Kradam (Adam Lambert/Kris Allen)
Rating - PG
Word Count - 1919
Summary - Kris is sick and is going to die. Adam makes a deal with a demon to save Kris.
Author’s Note - The title is from a song on Kris' first album.
Paimon is an actual demon from Christianity who speaks as described in this story. Mihalis is the Greek form of Michael.
TRIGGER WARNING - for serious illness and talk about death.

It seemed to happen in an instant. One minute Kris was fine, the next, the doctor was telling him he had probably six months to live. It had started about two weeks ago when Kris complained of a headache. Kris never got headaches, so Adam was worried from the start. He tried to get Kris to see a doctor, but Kris brushed him off. It was just a headache. It was gone the next day. Kris thought it was probably just stress. He was in the middle of planning his next tour. Their next tour. Adam and Kris were touring together for the first time and Adam was a perfectionist. He was getting on Kris' last nerve, even though Kris loved him with all his heart.

When the headache came back the next day, worse than it had been, Adam insisted that Kris see a doctor. Kris agreed because his head really did hurt. The doctor ordered some tests and two days later, they had a diagnosis and a prognosis. Kris had a brain tumor, it was fast-growing and he had approximately four months to live. Both men were devastated. They had gotten married the year before and had just settled into their new home. They had been planning this tour together, and now everything lay on the floor, shattered into a million pieces.

Kris and Adam had a few more weeks together before Kris began to show visible signs of the disease. Adam wanted to keep him at home and hire nurses to take care of him. But the doctors insisted that Kris needed to be in the hospital for proper treatment. So, Kris was moved into a private room on the long-term care wing of the hospital. Adam spent all his time with Kris. He only left to go eat and to get a little fresh air now and then. He watched, broken-hearted, as Kris grew weaker and weaker. He could barely speak and was too weak to feed himself. Adam fed him every meal, not that Kris ate much. Kris slept most of the time now. The doctors told Adam that it would just be a matter of three or four weeks at the most.

One night, while Adam watched Kris sleep, a man in a white coat came into the room. Adam assumed he was the night nurse. The man, however, approached Adam instead of tending to Kris. In a low voice, he said, "I can help your husband. I can cure him. Of course, this will come at a price." Adam stood up and looked the man in the eye. There was something there that made Adam believe him.

"Money is no object," Adam declared. "Just cure Kris, make him whole again. That's all I want."
"Good," said the man, "Because it won't cost you money. It will cost you something much more precious. It will cost you your voice."

" voice?" Adam asked hesitantly.

"Yes, your beautiful, flawless voice. I want it. I will trade you your husband's life for that voice."

Without hesitation, Adam agreed. "Yes, you can have my voice! Just heal Kris! Now!"

The man stepped over to Kris' bed and held his left hand over Kris’ head for a few seconds. Then he turned back to Adam. "Now to collect my fee." He held his left hand up to Adam's throat. Adam felt a coldness from his mouth down to his lungs. The man then held his right hand over his own throat. When he spoke again, he had Adam's voice. "Thank you, Mr. Lambert. It has been a pleasure doing business with you." He nodded with a smirk and left the room. Adam opened his mouth and tried to say Kris' name. The word was understandable, but his voice was rough, scratchy, like he had a frog in his throat. He tried a whole sentence and he sounded the same. He was too scared to try singing. Instead, he went back over to the bed and sat down next to Kris to see if there was any improvement.

He took Kris' hand in his and squeezed it lightly. Kris immediately opened his eyes, looked at Adam and smiled. "Hey, gorgeous," he said. "How long have you been here? You look exhausted. You should go get some sleep." Tears filled Adam's eyes. It seemed that the strange man had actually been able to cure Kris. Adam pressed the bell to call the nurse.

However, the doctors and nurses weren't as excited as Adam was by the fact that Kris seemed to suddenly feel better. "Adam," the doctor said, "don't get your hopes up. In cases like this, it's not unusual for the patient to rally and seem to improve just before they take a turn for the worse and this could signal that the end is not far away. I know this is hard on you, but you need to be prepared for Kris to go at any time."

However, that is not what happened. Kris continued to improve and grew stronger every day. Soon, he was up walking around the room and up and down the halls. The doctors ran every test they could think of on him and found that the tumor was gone. Kris was declared cured and a miracle cure at that. After another three weeks in the hospital, the doctors sent him home.

Kris had asked Adam several times about his voice and Adam had avoided the question, not wanting to make Kris feel guilty. But once they got home, he finally told Kris what he had done. Kris was horrified and, of course, felt completely guilty. Adam pulled him into his arms and assured him that it had been entirely worth it, since he doubted he would have had the heart to continue performing anyway if he had lost Kris. He said Kris was the most important thing in his life and now that he had Kris back, he felt complete again, even without his voice. Still, Kris fussed and fumed that the stranger had blackmailed Adam like that. He still felt guilty as well.

Paimon had always hated his voice. He roared incomprehensibly until one of the sorcerers made it possible for him to speak, then he could speak clearly. This greatly annoyed and frustrated the mighty demon. He had always wanted a different voice, one that was beautiful beyond compare. One night, as he roamed the Earth, he saw a sign for a concert in Tokyo, Japan. It was going on right then. Feeling out of sorts, he decided to go listen to the music and see if it lifted his mood. He entered the auditorium and stood by the side of the stage, invisible to everyone around him.

On the stage was a motley crew of musicians, led by a tall, dark-haired man who was doing the singing. Paimon listened to the man in awe. His voice was like the voice of an angel, otherworldly, flawless. Paimon stayed for the rest of the concert and found out that the man was called Adam Lambert. After that, Paimon followed Adam around the world and listened to that breathtaking voice time after time. He envied Adam his voice. It was the voice that he wanted, that he coveted. He tried to come up with a plan to obtain that voice.

He followed Adam home to Los Angeles and found that he had a boyfriend that he loved very much and that they were getting ready to get married. Paimon waited until after they got married and waited even longer for them to get settled into their new life. Then he struck. One night, as the two innocent men lay sleeping in each other’s arms, the demon entered their bedroom and put his right hand over Kris’ head. The next day, Kris complained of a head ache.

Paimon was sitting in his chamber in hell singing to himself in his new voice. He had dismissed all his sorcerers once he had acquired his new voice. His trusted assistant, Mihalis entered the room. “My Sovereign, what has happened to your voice? You sound magnificent!”

Paimon laughed, “I bargained with a mortal and got his incredible voice in return.” He laughed again. “What he doesn’t know is that I caused his problem in the first place.” Paimon continued to sing, belting out stunning high notes and singing every song he had ever wanted to be able to sing. “I believe I shall become the most famous singer on Earth. They might even let me into the Heavenly Choir with this voice!”

“But, my lord, you cannot use that voice to become a star or join the Heavenly Choir. I recognize that voice. It belongs to Adam Lambert. People around the world know that voice and love it and they love Adam. Those in the Heavenly Choir would also be aware of whose voice this is, since they gave it to him. The only place you can sing with your new voice is here, alone, for your own pleasure. No one can know you have that voice.”

Paimon stopped singing and looked at Mihalis in disbelief, which quickly turned to rage. “NO!” he roared, “That is not possible! I took this voice so I could use it to enthrall the mortals of Earth and join the choir in Heaven! If I cannot do that, this voice is useless to me!” In a fit of rage, he put his left hand to his throat and removed the voice he had stolen. He flung it far from him, out into the void between his world and the mortal world. He rose from his throne and swept out of the room in desolation.

Mihalis, who was actually the Archangel Michael in disguise, snatched the voice from the void and appeared inside the home where Adam and Kris lived. They were cuddled up on the couch, watching a movie. Michael took the precious gift and put it back where it belonged.

Adam felt a warm tingling in his throat. He swallowed, but it stayed there. He took a drink of water, but the warmth remained. “Kris, my throat...” He stopped talking as he realized that he was speaking in his normal voice. Kris sat up abruptly and turned to look at Adam.

“Adam! Say something else!” Kris demanded.

“I suddenly got this warm feeling in my throat and now...I don’t know what’s happening!” Suddenly, Adam grabbed Kris’ arm. “I hope this doesn’t know...I don’t want you to get sick again! No! I don’t want my voice back if it means I lose you!”

A soft voice filled the room. “Do not worry, Adam, Kris. He will not hurt you again. You are safe and your voice is back where it belongs. It will stay there. I can assure you that you will both have long, happy lives together. Enjoy every day that is given to you.”

Adam and Kris looked around, but saw no one else in the room. Then they looked at each other and smiled like idiots. Then they hugged like they never wanted to let go. But Kris broke it off to pull Adam down for a long, sweet kiss. “I promise to enjoy every single day I have with you. You are my life.”

Tears slid down Adam’s cheeks as he kissed Kris. “I promise to cherish every second with you. I wouldn’t want to live without you.”

Michael smiled, pleased with his work here.

Title - You are My Weakness
Prompt - Blackmail
Fandom - RPF Kradam (Adam Lambert/Kris Allen, Brad Bell)
Rating - NC-17
Word Count - 3900
Summary - Adam and Kris are very happy together until Adam's past catches up to him and he finds himself forced to do things he never thought he would have to do again in order to protect Kris and Brad.
TRIGGER WARNING - dub-con, rough sex, unfaithfulness, prostitution.
Autohor's Note - The title is from one of Kris Allen's songs.

Adam was carefully cutting out the cloth when the door to his workroom opened and Brad said, "Your majesty, there is a customer out front who is asking to see you." Adam raised one hand and waved it dismissively at his manager. "I know you don't see customers," Brad snarked, "but he's very insistent and he's wearing...plaid." Brad dropped his voice on the last word like he was speaking Voldemort's name. Adam's scissors clattered on the tabletop and he flew past Brad like a whirlwind.

"Kris! Hi! You're here! You came! I mean, you decided to come see where I work. That's great! Um, I'll show you around and then we can go to lunch " Brad just stared at his boss.. Adam had a big smile on his face and he was babbling. Adam introduced Kris to Brad. "This is Brad. He's the brains of the business."

The short, cute, brown-haired man in plaid smiled back at Adam. "Of course I came, Mitchel. I've never seen an actual couturier at work before. I want to see where you work and what you do."

Brad smiled and shook hands with Kris. "I just have to ask. No one in LA wears plaid. Do you order your shirts from out of state?" Adam glared at Brad, who ignored him and reached out to feel the fabric of Kris' shirt.

Kris laughed. "I pretty much always wear plaid. It can be hard to find in LA, but I've found a few places willing to stock plaid shirts, so I have my sources." Before Brad could say anything else, Adam whisked Kris away to the back room.

Hmmm. This was new, Brad thought. The two of them hadn't known each other long enough for Adam to tell Kris his real name, but he was clearly smitten with the smaller man. Adam had never invited one of his boyfriends to work before. In fact, there had been no real boyfriends, just a few two or three week flings for the past three years while the two of them had built this business from the ground up. Adam had the flair for fashion and design, as well as the skills to make the garments they sold. Brad had the brains, financial skills and salesmanship to run the business end of things. They made a great team. They had both stopped looking over their shoulders now that MNC was beginning to be a success. Adam must be feeling safe enough to actually let someone else in. Brad just hoped it worked out for Adam. He deserved it.

Over the next few weeks, Kris came into the store often to take "Mitchel" away for lunch. Brad urged him to buy a new shirt or two just to get him out of that hideous plaid he always wore. Kris laughingly refused. Adam assured Brad in private that he was planning to give Kris some very non-plaid shirts for his birthday next month. Brad could see that the relationship between Adam and Kris was getting serious. It was obvious from a mile away that they both were falling in love with each other. He helped Adam plan a special birthday party for Kris.

Adam didn’t want to have the party at the apartment he shared with Brad since it was so small. He decided to have it at a restaurant. He found a good one with a small, private back room. He invited all his friends and Kris’ friends. Everything was all set and Adam was looking forward to surprising Kris with the party. The big night came and Kris was truly surprised and thrilled that Mitchel had taken so much time to prepare this just for him. The restaurant closed at midnight, so the party ended then. Mitchel walked Kris to his car and held him up against it with his weight, kissing Kris and pressing his pelvis into Kris'. They hadn’t slept together yet and Kris was wondering just when that was going to happen. Mitchel seemed to be taking things slow, way too slow for Kris’ liking. But he enjoyed the few minutes they spent together under the darkened street light. Finally, Mitchel sighed and said he better go, but asked Kris to come to the store on Monday so they could go to lunch like usual. Kris agreed and got into his car, driving away slowly, watching Mitchel in his review mirror until he turned the corner and Mitchel disappeared from view.

“Cute guy. Your boyfriend, I gather,” an all-too-familiar male voice said from behind Adam. Adam’s stomach dropped as he spun around.

“Desmond, what are you doing here?” Adam’s voice trembled as he spoke. “H-how did you find me? Us?”

Desmond’s laugh was low and mean. “It wasn’t hard. Remember how well I know you, Adam. I figured you would try your hand at making clothes. Turns out I was right. I just had to find out where you went to get started. Bringing Bradley with you was a foregone conclusion. Nice store you’ve got going there. I’ve seen ads and reviews for it. Looks like it’s going to take off and become a big-name enterprise.” Desmond threw his arm around Adam’s shoulders. “Well done, my pet. Seems you have it all now. A name-brand fashion business, a large group of friends and a sweet, adorable little boyfriend.” He pulled Adam hard against his side. “However, there is the small matter of you and Bradley skipping out on your debt to me. That is not cool with me. At all. Debts were incurred, debts must be paid.”

Adam shivered. He and Brad had gotten as far from Miami as they could and it had been three years. He had thought they were safe now. But he knew how cruel Desmond could be. He had no idea what Desmond would demand from them for payment. He took a deep breath. “If you leave Brad alone, I‘ll do whatever you want me to do.”

“Oh, it‘s not just Brad you have to worry about now. It‘s your store‘s reputation, your personal reputation with your friends, and of course, that cute little boyfriend. You can kiss him good-bye as well if I tell people what you used to do for a living.” Desmond laughed that laugh again that made Adam quake in his boots. “But, since you so generously volunteered, I’ll allow you to pay off both you debt and Bradley’s debt. I’ll allow you to keep your business, your friends and your boyfriend, but you’ll work for me at least three nights a week.” Desmond got Adam’s phone number and, and as he was about to leave, he clapped Adam on the back and said, “Hey, cheer up! I’ll be like old times.” He laughed one last time and disappeared as quickly as he had appeared. Adam stood there for several minutes, taking deep breaths and trying not to pass out. He finally made his way to his car and drove slowly home.

“Hey, man, I thought you’d gotten lost, or maybe you’d decided to go home with Kris at last. If you do, don’t forget to call me so I don’t worry!” Brad greeted him when he got home. Adam forced a smile and went to the kitchen to pour himself a generous glass of vodka, straight up. He joined Brad in the living room. “Um, why don’t you just go home with Kris and fuck his brains out rather than come home and get drunk?” Brad asked when he saw Adam’s glass.

“I’ve told you before, I don’t feel right about sleeping with Kris unless I tell him the truth and I’m sure that as soon as I do, he’ll be gone.” Adam sighed and took a gulp of his vodka. “It sucks.” He wasn’t talking about Kris now. He had no intention of telling Brad what had happened. This was strictly between Adam and Desmond.

Adam had lunch with Kris on Monday and Kris thought Adam seemed distracted. When he asked Adam about it, Adam said he was having trouble figuring out a particularly difficult pattern he was working on at the moment. He apologized and smiled as Kris, taking his hand across the table. Before they parted ways after lunch, Adam snuck in a quick kiss and smiled at Kris again, promising to have lunch again on Thursday. Kris worked as a bartender at a comedy club and he had Sunday and Wednesday nights off. He and Mitchel always had lunch on Mondays and Thursdays.

The next day, Adam was in the backroom drawing a pattern when his phone rang. He didn’t recognize the number and his heart began to race. Sure enough, it was Desmond. “Hello Mitchel,” he greeted Adam gleefully. “I have a job for you. Tonight. It’s at the Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard. Be there at 8:00. The reservation is for Room 1032 and is under the name ‘Rico Diaz.’ You’ll be spending the night. I hope you still have some of the clothes you wore in Miami. They were always a hit. You know what they like.” Desmond hung up. Adam was shaking like a leaf. This was really happening. All the memories came crashing back in on him. He thought he had left all that far behind him, but he had just been fooling himself. Of course Desmond would come looking for them and wouldn’t stop until he found them. Now the nightmare had begun again.

Later, Adam told Brad that he was spending the night with Kris and that he would see him at work the next morning. Brad was thrilled that Adam was finally going to let Kris in a little further. Brad had had a boyfriend for almost a year now and had told him everything. He was so happy and he wanted Adam to be as happy as he was.

Adam arrived at the Roosevelt and got the key to Room 1032 from the concierge, who told him the room was paid for in advance. Adam took the elevator up and tried not to hyperventilate and pass out in the crowded car. It seemed like forever and a split second all at the same time before the elevator reached the 10th floor. Adam hurried to the room and let himself in. He took his duffel bag into the bathroom with him and took a shower, changing into a silky, see-through black tank top and tight black leather pants. He left his feet bare. Then he put on glittery grey eye shadow, black eyeliner and black mascara. He carefully combed his hair to look purposely tousled, letting it fall across his left eye. Then Adam went out to the sitting room area and poured himself a drink. He curled up on the couch, sipping at his drink and waited.

At 8:43, there was a knock on the door. Adam downed the rest of his drink in one gulp and got up to answer the door. The man appeared to be in his late 40s. He wasn’t quite as tall as Adam. He was nice looking and seemed to be in fairly good shape. Adam was a little relieved. Desmond’s clients usually weren’t this ordinary looking. The man said he name was Stuart and Adam introduced himself as Rico. Stuart sat down on the sofa as Adam went to the bar to get them both drinks. Stuart had Scotch, Adam stuck to vodka.

They spent a few minutes on small talk. The first thing Stuart wanted to know was how old “Rico” was. This was usually the first question any client asked. Adam knew the drill. “I’m 23,” he answered. He was actually 30, but the clients always liked younger men. Stuart smiled with satisfaction.

“Des said you were a looker and knew how to dress. He wasn’t lying. You look positively delectable in that outfit.” Adam blushed. He hadn’t heard this type of remark in three years and it made him uncomfortable. Stuart thought it was adorable.

“Well, shall we head for the bedroom?” Stuart asked after finishing his drink. Again, Adam finished his quickly and they both went into the bedroom. Stuart insisted on undressing Adam, then made him lie down on his stomach while he took his own clothes off. It seemed Stuart wasn’t much for foreplay. He got Adam on his elbows and knees and briefly worked him open with a little bit of lube, then stated that he preferred to go bareback. Adam immediately rolled off the bed and reached for his clothes.

“Sorry, that’s not happening. Desmond is very clear about that with all his clients.”

Stuart jumped off the bed and grabbed Adam’s clothes from him. “Ok, pretty boy. Take it easy. Desmond did tell me condoms have to be used. I was just hoping you’d be ok with not using one. It’s not a deal-breaker. I’m more than willing to use one for your pretty ass.” Finally reassured, Adam got back on his elbows and knees on the bed. Stuart rolled on a condom and lubed it up a little. Without warning, Stuart entered Adam hard and deep. Adam cried out and gripped the sheets with both hands. Stuart laughed and kept thrusting, going harder and faster with each stroke. This was the kind of client that Adam remembered all too well from Miami. Tears were running down his face by the time Stuart finally climaxed.

Stuart pulled out and discarded the condom. He slapped Adam hard on the ass and asked cheerfully, “Was it good for you, pretty boy? It was great for me!” Adam dropped down on his stomach and wondered how he was going to make it through the night. Stuart was going to want at least one more session before morning, maybe two more. The thought made Adam sick to his stomach. His ass ached and he knew he had bruises on his hips where Stuart had held him in place.

Stuart put on one of the bathrobes provided by the hotel and left Adam on the bed while he went out to the sitting room and ordered from room service. After the food arrived, he called Adam out for dinner. After they ate, Adam made them drinks again and they sat on the sofa. Once Stuart regained his stamina, he had Adam get down on his knees and give him a blow job. Again, he tried to get Adam to skip the condom, but Adam refused. Stuart was a little more annoyed this time, but agreed again.

Later, after another punishing session in bed, Stuart finally fell asleep. Adam wanted to sneak out, but knew Desmond would kill him if he did. He fell asleep, exhausted, near dawn. When he woke up, Stuart was gone, but he had left Adam a $100 tip on the dresser. Adam showered and got dressed, then he hurried to work. He wondered how in the hell he was going to pretend to be cheerful in front of Brad and Kris today.

Adam got another call from Desmond on Thursday. He had another client for Adam to entertain. The details were the same - the Roosevelt Hotel, Room 1032 under the name of Rico Diaz. He had to be there by 8:00 tonight and be prepared to spend the night. Adam again told Brad he was going to spend the night with Kris. He got to the hotel and went through the same ritual. This time he dressed in a shimmering silver top with the same black leather pants and no shoes again. He had his vodka while he waited. This time, it was almost 9:00 before there was a knock on the door. Adam had already finished his drink. He answered the door to find a large, middle-aged man standing there. He said his name was Lee. He walked in and watched Adam with predatory eyes as he went to get both of them a drink.

When Adam returned to the sofa, Lee pulled him down to sit on his lap. Lee did believe in foreplay, it seemed, as he let Adam hold his glass and give him occasional sips so he could have his hands free to let his hands roam over Adam’s body. He soon had Adam’s shirt off and was stroking his nipples with one hand while stroking his crotch with the other.

In the bedroom, Lee had Adam remove both their clothing, then he had Adam lie down on his back. He spread Adam’s legs and pushed them up, kneeling in front of him and sliding on a condom. “Desmond tells me you don’t mind it rough. Let’s see.” He pushed inside and began pounding into Adam like a jackhammer. Adam thought he was going to pass out. The only thing that kept him from pushing this brute off and running from the hotel was the thought of Kris finding out what he was doing. He thought of Kris and his smile and his kisses. It was the only thing that got him through that night. The next day, he was too sore to do more than drag himself home. He stayed in bed, not going into work. He spent half the day crying, realizing that he had to break it off with Kris because as long as he was working for Desmond, he could never have a real relationship with Kris. It wasn’t fair to keep Kris dangling like this. He had to let him go so he could find someone who could be honest with him and love him the way he should be loved.

Adam didn’t hear Brad come home since he was crying again. Brad came into the bedroom quietly. “Adam, what’s wrong? You never cry, or you haven’t in three years, anyway. You’ve been acting strange this past week. What’s going on?”

Startled, Adam buried his head in his pillow and muttered, “Nothing. I...Kris and I broke up. I don’t want to talk about it.”

“That’s odd. Kris doesn’t know about this supposed break-up. He came into the store today and wanted to take you to lunch. He also said you hadn’t spent the night with him last night. Now tell me what’s going on!” Brad ordered.

Adam froze. His mind raced. How could he explain all this to Brad? To Kris, who now thought he was a big fat liar, which he was? Adam slowly rolled over in bed and looked at Brad. He took a deep breath and the whole story just sort of spilled out. He was sobbing, as was Brad, by the time he finished. Brad held him in his arms, rocking back and forth. When both men had finally calmed down and Brad could speak, he said, “Adam, we’re not helpless any more. We can hire a lawyer and take care of Desmond once and for all. Plus, do you really think our friends would leave us just because of our past? They either have had similar backgrounds or know someone who has. They don’t care. I love you to death for protecting me from Desmond, but let’s take care of him together.”

“But what about Kris?” Adam asked in a very small voice. “I don’t want him to find out. I’m not sure he would forgive me.”

“There’s only one way to find out and you know you need to find out,” Brad replied. “I’m betting Kris won’t care. He’s head over heels in love with you.”

The lawyer Adam and Brad hired made short work of Desmond. If he ever came near either one of them or any of their friends or family, he would go straight to jail, do not pass Go, do not collect $200. Now for the really scary part. Adam invited himself to Kris’ apartment one Sunday night. He had told Kris that he needed to tell him something important, which had Kris slightly nervous. The way Mitchel had been acting the last couple of weeks, Kris was sure Mitchel was going to break up with him, tell him he’d found someone new, someone more interesting.

The two were sitting in Kris’ living room, one on one end of the sofa, the other on the other end. Mitchel wouldn’t look at Kris. He stared into his drink, trying to get his courage up to tell Kris the truth. He took a deep breath and started, “Kris, my real name isn’t Mitchel. It’s Adam. Mitchel is my middle name. Brad and I used to live in Miami. We ran away from a bad situation three years ago and came here to LA. I, we were trying to become singers, cut an album and hopefully become pop stars. This man came along, Desmond. He loaned us a lot of money to get started, promised he would help us reach our dreams. But nothing panned out. Suddenly, he turned harsh and demanding and told us we owed him thousands and thousands of dollars. He said we needed to ‘work off’ our debts to him. By that, he meant we had to entertain clients for him. Sexually. He said if we didn’t, he would have us arrested and thrown in jail for stealing his money. We became...”

Adam paused and took a long drink. Kris reached out and took his hand. Adam tried to pull it back, but Kris wouldn’t let go. “We became prostitutes for Desmond. His clients weren’t nice men. They wanted young, pretty boys they could...use. It was horrible. That lasted for two years. Finally, we couldn’t stand it any more and we took off. We ended up here three years ago. We built MNC up and were finally feeling safe and successful. Brad has a boyfriend and I met you. Things were great.

“Then, a month ago, the night of your birthday party, Desmond showed up right after you left and told me if I didn’t finish paying off our debt, he would ruin our business, he would tell all our friends about our past and he would tell you. I couldn’t let him ruin everything we had worked so hard for, so...” Adam took a deep breath, pausing for a long minute before continuing. He pulled his hand away from Kris and moved to stand behind the recliner where Kris couldn't reach him. “I agreed to start seeing clients for him again. I saw two. It was just like being back in Miami. I was just a piece of meat to them and I feel so ashamed. Then both you and Brad figured out I was lying about where I was on those two nights, and I finally told Brad what was going on.” Adam moved to sit on the edge of the recliner and dropped his head into his hands, sobbing.

“I’m so sorry. I'm not a couturier. I'm just a prostitute. I never meant to hurt you or lie to you. I hope you find someone you can trust and will be faithful to you.” Kris fell to his knees in front of Adam. Tears were running down his cheeks.

“I’ve already found someone like that. Someone who loves me, will be faithful to me and who will do anything to protect me. Someone I happen to love very, very much. Now kiss me...Adam.” Adam obeyed. Brad was not at all surprised to get a text saying, ‘C u in am. maybe’

Author’s Note - The title is from a song by the Who.

Kris dressed with care tonight. Adam Lambert was in Little Rock for a show in his Hold on to Me Tour. Kris had been a fan of Adam's since he first saw him on Idol five years ago. He had seen Adam in concert twenty-three times over the years and each time was like the first time. He was always swept away by Adam's voice and his sheer presence. He also had a massive crush on Adam. So, Kris always dressed his best. Of course, his best was vintage Kris - plaid shirt, skinny jeans and his good sneakers. Tonight he picked out black jeans and a blue and purple plaid shirt. He did his best to tame his hair, but, as usual, he finally gave up and left it the way it was. Kris jumped into his car and drove to the concert hall. He always bought one of the best seats available and was in the fifth row back, near the center. A perfect view of the stage and his Idol.

Adam was in his dressing room putting on his makeup. He had been on tour for five months straight and was exhausted. He still had another month to go before he was done and could take a break. He was going directly to Cabo and lie on the beach for two or three weeks as soon as the tour was over. He dressed for the first part of the show and then grabbed his water bottle and went out to the back of the stage, waiting for his cue to go on. He sighed. He knew that as soon as the show started, he would be fine, he would throw himself into his performance and get that energy exchange with the audience, but right now, at this moment, he wanted to be anywhere but here. The stage manager gave him his cue and he ran out onto the stage.

Kris was in heaven. The concert was the best one he'd been to yet. Adam was simply amazing. Kris watched him in fascination. Man, he thought, what must it be like to be Adam Lambert? To be up there on stage singing like that, commanding the stage, to have all those adoring fans screaming and dancing, yelling that they loved him? He got to travel from city to city and see the entire country. Heck, the entire world! All the interviews he got to do, pictures of him all over the internet. Kris wished he could change places with Adam, just for a little while. He wanted to know what it was like to actually be his idol.

Adam was singing Better Than I Know Myself just then, sitting on the steps of the set, mic in his hands, letting the emotion of the song flow through him. As he stood up, he caught a pair of deep brown eyes looking at him, mesmerized. The belonged to a handsome young man with tousled brown hair and a crooked smile. He was wearing a plaid shirt. Something about him captured Adam's attention. He wondered what it would be like to be that young man, enjoying a concert, living a normal life. No interviews to do, no shows to perform, no media hounding him, no paparazzi following him everywhere. No living on a bus for months at a time. He wished he could be that man, just for a while.

As Adam finished the song, the room began to spin, but he stood still. The lights became brighter, the audience seemed to fade...Kris felt the room move - it was spinning. No, he was moving, not the room...Adam held onto the mic for dear life, but it just disappeared from his hand as the stage whirled out from under his feet...Kris was looking down at the people in front of him. He was looking at a sea of faces and he held a microphone in his hand - a glittery, black mic...Adam found himself in the audience looking up at himself up on the stage...Kris could see himself in the fifth row back, staring at...he looked down and found himself wearing a pair of skin-tight leather pants, knee-high leather boots that laced up the sides and a glittery black tank top...Adam looked down to see he was dressed like the man in plaid...Both men stared at each other until Tommy stepped up beside Adam, uh, Kris and quietly said, "Hey, man, you gonna do the next song or what?"

Kris had no idea if he would be able to sing like Adam or if it would be his own voice that came out. But he absolutely did not want to let his idol down. Besides, this was his chance to be Adam Lambert. He knew that the list of songs was taped to the floor so he stepped up to it and looked to see what the next song was. There were only two more before the encore. He glanced at Tommy and nodded. The band started, Kris opened his mouth and Adam's voice came out. Kris started out a little hesitantly, but soon got into the song and started imitating Adam, strutting around the stage and putting his own spin on the song. Kris was half-way through the song when it dawned on him that at this moment in time, he was a rock star. He was up on stage singing to thousands of adoring fans. He got caught up in the feeling and finished the song to screams and whistles from the audience.

When the song was over, Kris came back down to Earth and looked out at himself/Adam in the audience. He was staring at Kris in amazement. Kris did the last song, then left the stage briefly before the encore. While he was off stage for that moment, he snagged one of the bodyguards and told him to bring the guy in the fifth row dressed in plaid to his dressing room after the show. The bodyguard smiled knowingly, and with a wink, assured Kris that he would. Kris went back out onto the stage to do the encore. It was all over before he knew it and the band was heading offstage, high-fiving and celebrating another fantastic show. Kris joined in, but headed for his dressing room...wait. Where was his dressing room? He grabbed one of the venue staff and asked him. The guy gave him an odd look, but told him. "Thanks," Kris said. "I go to so many different places I get confused sometimes." The guy nodded and Kris hurried to the dressing room. He got a bottle of water from the small fridge and took several big gulps. He was sweating and his mind was turning in all directions. He sat down and took off the boots. His feet were killing him. How did Adam do an entire show in those things? He was gulping more water when there was a knock on the door. He jumped up and hurried over to answer it. It was the bodyguard with Kris, uh, Adam. Kris thanked the bodyguard and practically shut the door in his face, then locked the door. He could hear the guard snickering through the door.

"What the heck is going on? One minute I'm enjoying your show, the next minute, I'm you! I'm up on the stage being you! Then I see myself out in the audience and I figure that must really be you, not me. You are Adam Lambert, right? So what happened?" Man, it was strange to talk and hear Adam Lambert's voice come out instead of his own. Kris dropped down on the couch and heaved a huge sigh. "I'm so confused right now. I'm you, but I'm still me."

Adam threw himself into the chair and draped one leg over the arm. Man, Kris thought, that just looked wrong when Adam looked like him. Kris couldn't pull off that casual sexiness. "I have no more idea than you do, who ever you are!" Adam stated. "I was up on stage and I saw you in the audience. I wondered what it would be like to be you, just living a normal life. The song ended and suddenly everything swirled around and I was in the audience and I was you. Damn, it sounds weird hearing myself talking and not having my own voice come out."

Kris gasped. "I was doing the same thing during that song! Wondering what it would be like to be you up there on the stage with all those adoring fans screaming for you. Then, suddenly, like you said, everything whirled around me and I was up on the stage and I was you. I'm Kris Allen, by the way. I'm nobody, just a huge fan of yours."

"Ok, Kris Allen," Adam said. "I don't know what's going on here, but I need liquor, lots of it. Let's go back to my hotel room and figure out how we got into this mess and how we're going to get out of it."

With Adam's help, Kris got the makeup off his face and then he changed into jeans and a t-shirt. He did a quick meet and greet with Adam standing right next to him. Then they got into the hired car and the driver took them to the Capital Hotel in downtown Little Rock. Adam had a suite reserved there for the night. Kris was comfortable enough in the jeans and t-shirt, but Adam was appalled to be wearing a plaid flannel shirt and Chucks. He took off the sneakers and sock-footed. Then he rummaged through his luggage and grabbed his Queen t-shirt to put on, even though it was too big on him. Then he went to the wet bar and poured himself a vodka on the rocks. "You want a drink, Kris?" he asked.

"Yeah, I'll have a beer."

Adam brought two glasses over to the sitting area along with the bottle of vodka and a six pack of beer for Kris. He dropped down on the couch, tucking his legs underneath him, facing Kris who had assumed pretty much the same position on the other end of the couch. "I think we can assume that somehow our wishing to be the other person is the key to what happened to us," Adam said. "How long it will last, or how we can undo this, I have no idea. If you do, let me know." The two of them sat there sipping their drinks and thinking.

Adam pulled his cell phone out of his pocket, then realized it wasn't his. "Hey, here's your phone. What did you do with mine?" he asked, handing Kris the phone.

"I don't know. What did you do with it before the show? I wasn't thinking about cell phones when I was in the dressing room."

Adam padded over to his luggage and rummaged through the duffle bag he had taken to the theater with him earlier. He finally found the phone and came back over to the sitting area. He paced as he called someone on the phone. "Lane? It's Adam. I really need to see you in my room as soon as possible. Yes, I know I sound funny. I'll tell you about that when you get here. Please, hurry." He hung up and poured himself another glass of vodka and sat down. The two men sat in silence while they waited for Adam's personal assistant to get there. As soon as there was a knock on the door, Adam jumped up and hurried to answer it. He threw open the door and pulled Lane into the room, shutting the door behind her and locking it. He turned around just in time for Lane to slap him in the face.

"I have no idea who you are, but you have no right to touch me, let alone yank me around!" Lane informed him. "I should call security and have you arrested for assault."

"Lane," Adam said, "it's me, Adam!" Lane snorted.

"Of course it is!" She looked across the room at Kris who was standing by the sofa. "Adam, who is this and what the hell is going on?"

"L-lane, you better come over and sit down. This is going to be almost impossible to explain," Kris said and gestured to one of the chairs near the sofa. "My name is Kris, Kris Allen. Honest." Lane side-eyed both men warily and slowly walked over to the chair, not taking her eyes off them. She refused to sit down until they did. When they were all seated, with Lane a safe distance away from Adam and Kris, Adam started explaining.

"Lane, I know this sounds crazy." Lane snorted again. "Something happened during the concert tonight. Right after I sang Better Than I Know Myself. I was looking out at the audience and I saw Kris in one of the front rows looking up at me. I wondered what it would be like to be him for a little while - not to have to live on a bus, not to have to put up with the media, not to have to be 'on' all the time, just to have a normal life, just for a month or so. He was thinking that he would like to be me up there on stage, performing every night, having all the screaming fans around, having the media hang on your every word, live like a rock star. Suddenly, everything spun around and we changed places. Suddenly I was Kris and Kris was me. We don't know why this happened or how long it'll last, or if it's permanent. Can you help us figure this out?"

Lane stared at the men silently for what seemed to them like twenty minutes. Finally, she started laughing. "Ok, guys. You got me! Good one! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm tired and I'm going to go to bed." She stood up and headed for the door.

"Wait!" both Kris and Adam shouted in tandem. "Don't go," Adam continued, "We're dead serious here and have no idea what to do. Please. Help us." Lane turned back around and stared at them again.

"Adam, what city were we in when you fell off your platform boots just before you went on stage?"

"Boston," Adam answered immediately.

"What costume did I wear to your Halloween party two years ago?"

"Oh! You were Cher. Those lips were hilarious!"

Lane narrowed her eyes. " answered both of those right. I'm starting to believe you." She turned to Kris. "Show me some ID."

Kris looked at Adam, who dug into his back pocket and pulled out Kris' wallet. He handed it to Lane. Lane checked the ID, then turned to Adam. "Why are you wearing Adam's, uh, your own t-shirt? You're wearing his pants."

"The pants are ok, but the shirt he had on was plaid. He was also wearing Chucks. They had to go."

Lane laughed. "Ok, I believe you. No one but Adam Lambert would worry about fashion in the middle of a crisis like this. Let's sit back down and see what we can figure out."

The three of them talked until the sun came up. Lane and Kris were adamant that the rest of the tour should be canceled. Adam was equally determined that the show must go on. He pointed out that Kris had handled the end of this show like pro and was sure he could do the rest of the shows just as well. He did not want to cancel the last month of the tour, disappoint his fans and then have to come up with some lie to explain why he canceled the tour.

Kris appreciated Adam's faith in him, but he was not a rock star and he'd never performed even one entire show, let alone a month of them. He did admit that he sang and played guitar and piano and that he had a permanent Friday night gig at a local club, but that was just for one hour a week. Adam used this fact to bolster his case for Kris being able to handle a month of tour dates. It would be twenty-three shows, surely Kris could handle that. Lane was more worried about someone finding out what was going on and having to try to explain that. Adam assured her that no one would find out because no one would ever imagine this could happen. Both Lane and Kris finally agreed with him on that point.

Adam also pointed out that he would be with Kris all the way. He could fill him in on the schedule, the inner workings of the glamily and be there for moral support. Lane wanted to know how they would explain his sudden appearance on the tour. Kris was finally getting into the idea of actually doing this and he came up with the idea of saying that Adam was his cousin and that he wanted to come along to see what it was like to be a rock star. Adam jumped on that explanation.

Lane was also coming around to the idea, knowing that Adam's management wouldn't be happy at all if he canceled a month of sold out tour dates. She agreed with the idea of Adam and Kris being cousins. However, there was one more problem. Both buses were full. Where would "Kris" sleep?

"He can sleep with me," Adam said. "Since we're cousins, it won't look strange. We'll have to do some shopping before we leave Little Rock so I have some clothes to wear for the next month. We can get one of the store in town to bring over some and I'll pick out what I need. I'll need luggage, too. And personal things, like toiletries, etc."

Lane agreed to make the arrangements for all of this and then she left to go to her room and get some much needed sleep. Adam looked at Kris. "We should get some sleep, too. We have to be on the bus by five o'clock this afternoon. Fortunately, there's no show tonight. We'll have time to talk about how things work. You take the bed. I'll sleep here on the couch." He got up and headed for the bedroom to grab a pillow and a blanket.

Kris stood up and said, "No! I can't take your bed. I'll sleep here on the couch."

Adam stopped and turned around, "We could both sleep in the bed. It's a king size. If that doesn't weird you out - sleeping in the same bed as a gay man."

"It doesn't weird me out at all. I've done it plenty of times. What does make me nervous is sleeping with Adam Lambert. That will be something to remember." Kris grinned. Adam smiled back.

"As long as I don't see pictures of us in bed together on the front of the Enquirer, it'll be fine. I promise not to get too frisky." He winked and headed for the bedroom again. Both men got in bed and soon fell asleep. Adam had set the alarm for ten o'clock so they would have time to shop for clothes and the rest of the things he would need for the month.

The two men got on the bus early and got settled into Adam's room at the back of the bus. They had had lunch with the band and the dancers, explaining "Kris'" presence and the fact that he would be with them for the rest of the tour. They all accepted him graciously and without question. After the two of them unpacked Adam's new clothes, they sat on the bed and Adam started filling in Kris on what to expect and how to act around everyone. If he ran into any problems when Adam wasn't around, he was supposed to find Lane and she would help him. Both Lane and Adam had agreed that one or the other of them would be with or near Kris at all times.

The month went by more quickly than any of them thought it would. Kris did an admirable job filling in for Adam. He didn't quite have the swagger and smoldering sexiness and command of the stage that Adam did, but he gradually improved and the crowds didn't seem to see anything wrong. Adam, Kris and Lane were happy with the situation. However, they still had to figure out how to get Adam back in his own body and Kris back in his. None of them had any idea how to do this.

As the weeks passed, Adam and Kris spent most of their time together and they realized that they had a lot in common. They became close friends and Kris knew he was falling for the rock star. Adam was also falling in love, but neither wanted to say anything because the situation was so bizarre.

Finally, the last night of the tour came - Honolulu. Kris was up on the stage putting his all into the performance, wanting to make this last one his best one. And it was. Adam was standing in the wings and was so proud of Kris and what he had managed to do this past month.

As Kris finished Better Than I Know Myself, the room began to spin, but he stood still. The lights became brighter, the audience seemed to fade...Adam felt the room move - it was spinning. No, he was moving, not the room...Kris held onto the mic for dear life, but it just disappeared from his hand as the stage whirled out from under his feet...Adam was looking down at the people in front of him. He was looking at a sea of faces and he held a microphone in his hand - his glittery, black mic...Kris found himself in the wings looking out at Adam on the stage...Adam looked over to the side and he saw Kris looking back at him...he looked down and found himself wearing a pair of skin-tight leather pants, knee-high leather boots that laced up the sides and a glittery black tank top...Kris looked down to see he was wearing a purple button down, black jeans and black biker boots...Both men stared at each other until Tommy stepped up beside Adam and quietly said, "Hey, man, you gonna do the next song or what?"

Adam nodded and launched into Talk to Me, a hit off his latest album. Then he finished the concert with Whatta You Want From Me. He left the stage, then went back out for the encore, singing If I Had You and Lay Me Down.. Then he hurried over to Kris and Lane standing in the wings. The three of them hurried to Adam's dressing room. Kris had told Lane what had happened during Better Than I Know Myself this time. They were all relieved that their big problem was solved, but each was uneasy about how it had happened and why.

As they were leaving the theater to go to the hotel, Adam caught a glimpse of a tall man dressed all in black, wearing a long black cape. The man was looking at him and smiling. Adam had a funny feeling about the man. He left Kris and Lane standing on the sidewalk and hurried through the crowd to try to reach the stranger. But when Adam reached the spot where he saw the man, the man was gone. On the ground was a piece of paper. Adam picked it up and looked at it. It had the lyrics to Better Than I Know Myself written on it. A shiver ran down Adam’s spine. He glanced around but couldn’t find the mysterious man. He hurried back over to Lane and Kris. They got in the car and the driver took them to the hotel.

As soon as Adam and Kris were in their room with the door closed, Adam pulled Kris close and kissed him. The first kiss was just a gentle, questioning kiss. When Kris responded, Adam kissed him again, deeper and more passionate. The third time, he kissed Kris until Kris was hanging on to Adam’s shirt for support. Finally, Adam pulled back and looked at Kris, blue eyes meeting brown. “Kris, I love you. I think I’ve been in love with you since you fell off the steps on stage and got back up and kept singing like nothing had happened. You amaze me. I don’t want you to go back to Arkansas. I’d like you to come live with me in L.A.” He kissed Kris gently again.

Kris sighed and leaned his forehead against Adam’s chest. Then he looked up at Adam, who had a worried look on his face. “I love you too, Adam. I don’t know exactly when I fell in love with you, but I can’t imagine going back to my old life and never seeing you again.” He leaned up and kissed Adam. Adam lead Kris to the bedroom and each showed the other exactly how much he loved him.

He wore a long, black coat, black leather pants and knee-high black leather boots. His hair was black and fell over one eye. His eyes were piercing blue. Kris could tell that when the tall man passed under a street lamp as he strode down the sidewalk like he owned it. Kris had never felt like this before. He was both intrigued by the stranger and also scared. The man seemed to emit an aura of danger like a force field. Kris was self-aware enough to realize that that air of danger was part of the attraction he felt.

Kris was walking home from the theater where he was the music director. Tonight had been the opening night for this season's first production - the musical Phantom of the Opera. He lived about five blocks from the theater and liked the walk home to relax after the excitement of the performance, even though it was 2:00 in the morning. Tonight, though, he didn't feel relaxed. He felt intrigued, curious, almost a little reckless. He knew it was the pull of the danger and the obvious attractiveness of the man that had him all wound up.

After the dark stranger passed, Kris waited a few seconds, then turned and followed the man. Since the man in black was considerable taller than Kris, Kris had to practically run to keep up. He kept to the shadows, as did the stranger. Kris tried to keep quiet, but he was really winded when, fifteen minutes later, the stranger stopped abruptly in front of an old Gothic-style cathedral. He looked up at it, then mounted the steps and disappeared inside. Kris paused to catch his breath for a moment before following the man.

The wide, heavy door made no noise as Kris pushed it open and slipped inside, quickly closing the door behind him. Kris was now in complete darkness. He put his hands out and felt around in front of him. There was nothing there, so he took a step forward. He continued this method of moving forward until he could see light through the high window in another door directly in front of him. He moved up to the door and put his hands on it. There were no door handles, so Kris guessed it was a swinging door and he slowly pushed on it. It swung silently open and he passed through into the church sanctuary.

What Kris saw had him rooted to the spot. At the front of the sanctuary, standing on the dais surrounded by flickering candles, was a tall gray-haired man. He was wearing a silver vest that looked to be made of mesh. He also had on silver leather pants and boots. Framing him on either side was a pair of silver wings. The candlelight made the man glimmer like steel. The wings looked huge to Kris. He reached for the nearest pew and sat down. Then the man (being?) spoke.

"You've come to beg for your life back, Adam? It will do you no good. If I were to do that, I would lose my life. Or should I say, your old life. I'm having far too good a time to give it back to you. You were such an easy mark, far too trusting, far too easy to manipulate." The creature's voice sounded like the voice of doom.

Kris had almost forgotten why he was here until he saw a shadow move off to his left . It was the dark stranger he had followed. He had taken off his long coat and now that Kris' eyes had adjusted to the darkness, he could see that the man, Adam, also had wings - big black wings. He was also wearing a mesh top, black of course. Adam stepped into the circle of the candlelight and the radiance shining off his black wings and hair made them seem iridescent. He became ethereal, unearthly, seemingly only tenuously bound to the ground he stood on.

"I have come to beg for nothing, Owen," he said. "I've come to let you know that I will not go down without a fight. Only one of us will leave here tonight." That was all the warning Owen got. With just a simple flick of his wing tips, Adam sent a wave of energy toward Owen. It knocked the silver creature on his back. Adam didn't give him a chance to get up. He flicked his wings a bit more and the energy enveloped Owen, seeming to steal his breath for a moment before he was able to rally.

"I always knew you were stronger than I. That's why I had to fight dirty in order to overcome you." Energy again flew from Adam's wings. His nemesis rolled head over heels to the back of the dais. Owen made an admirable attempt to slow Adam down. He sent a ball of energy from his own wings - toward Kris! Kris gasped as it hit him. He went down on his knees, gasping for breath. Adam never looked at Kris.

"Owen, leave the human alone. He has nothing to do with either one of us. He is not a part of this fight." Adam gathered himself to blast Owen again when Owen spoke.

"He made himself a part of this fight when he followed you here. You know that he is but a human and that it will only take one more hit from me to kill him. You cannot finish me off before I can end him. Stop now and save the human, or watch me kill him before you kill me. Can your conscience bear that burden for the rest of eternity? I think not." Owen laughed, a harsh, grating sound like chains rattling in a cemetery.

Adam glanced back at Kris, who was on his hands and knees, still breathless and very weak. Adam whirled back to face his enemy. "Owen, you cannot do this! He is a mere mortal. To use him as a pawn in your wicked game is unforgivable. Let him go and let us fight this out, just the two of us!"

"Not a chance! I need an advantage to gain the upper hand and this mortal is it. Of course, you can let him die. He's just one pitiful human among billions. He's not worth that much to you or to anyone. Then you can finish our fight and regain your rightful position. It's your choice, Adam. Make it now!" Owen began to gather energy in his wings in preparation for the coup de grace on Kris.

Adam stepped quickly between Owen and Kris. "All right, Owen. You win. Leave the mortal. Take my life instead. I will do nothing to stop you. You have my word" A small bolt of energy left Adam's wings and enveloped Kris. He immediately felt back to normal, better than normal, even. He stood and moved toward Adam, somehow thinking he could stop what was coming.

"Adam, don't do this! Owen is right. I'm only human and I'm not worth all that much. You are worth so much more than I am. Don't let this...this fiend take your life. He can't win. He deserves to die. Not you." Adam turned those piercing blues eyes on Kris. Kris was mesmerized.

"Thank you, Kristopher Allen, but I gave Owen my word and I will not go back on it. I also believe that humans are just as valuable, if not more so, than angels. It is my job to watch over you, to keep you safe, no matter what. Please leave now. You do not need to watch this. Just remember this night and continue to make your life count for good." Adam turned back to Owen. "Once you've regained your strength, you may do what you will. I will not fight back."

Kris moved back to the and stood, clinging to the back of it. He could not leave Adam to die alone. Tears were running down his cheeks. He watched as, over and over again, Owen sent those blasts of energy from the tips of his wings to engulf Adam. Adam stood straight and proud for as long as he could, until the attacks sapped his strength and he fell to his knees, head bowed. To Kris, it seemed that Owen was taking pleasure in torturing Adam and was using less powerful bolts of energy to prolong Adam's suffering.

The end came slowly and without a sound. Adam never made a noise the entire time Owen was stealing the life from him. Once Adam was lying on the floor, it was hard to tell when the end actually came. However, Owen seemed to know. He suddenly stopped his attack, walked over to Adam and bent down. He stood back up and kicked his enemy's body, then walked to the door. He paused beside Kris and sneered, "Thank your lucky stars that I'm in a good mood now that he's gone, or I would kill you just for the fun of it." He swept out of the church and Kris could hear the front door bang shut.

He hurried over to Adam's body. The wings and the ebony hair had lost their luster. They no longer shown like rainbows in the candlelight. The brilliant blue eyes were now dim, barely shining. Adam was barely alive and fading fast. Kris sobbed and pulled Adam into his arms. "Adam, why did do this? I don't deserve your sacrifice! Please! Don't go. There must be something I can do...something someone can save you."

Adam spoke in a low voice, "What's done is done. Owen may not be as magically strong as I am, but he has powerful friends. That is how he was able to steal my position and get me kicked out of Heaven. It is up to the others he has wronged to fight him now. I have no regrets for what has happened here tonight. You are worth my life. Always remember that." Adam then fell silent and the only way Kris knew he still lived was by his shallow breathing.

Kris rocked back and forth, singing and sobbing. Kris lost track of time. He suddenly noticed through the church windows that dawn was breaking. As the sun rose higher, light came through the stained glass window and cast a kaleidoscope of colors across the two in the sanctuary. Adam's breathing stopped and he began fading away. "NO!" Kris screamed. "NO! Don't take him away from me! I need more time. Please, just a little more time!" he pleaded on a sob. But no more time was given to him. In minutes, Adam was gone. Kris was left in the sanctuary, alone and sobbing. A single black feather was all that was left of Adam.

After two more hours of sitting on the floor, Kris finally ran out of tears. He rose to his feet, picked up the feather and unsteadily made his way out of the church. It was a long walk home. Images of Owen ravaging Adam with his life-sapping energy ran through Kris's head. When Kris finally reached his apartment, he fell into bed and slept for over twelve hours. When he woke up, it all came crashing back in on him. Kris knew he could no longer stay here, in this apartment, in this city. He needed to get out now. He needed to make his life count, to do something with it that would be worthy of Adam's sacrifice. He had no idea what that was, but he was pretty sure directing local musical theater wasn't it.

Six years later, Kris was living in Washington, D.C. He was the director of a non-profit organization that helped critically ill patients of all ages obtain the medical supplies they needed, including medications. Their reason for existence was to ease the suffering of these patients and make sure they didn't have to worry about how they were going to pay for their treatments. The name of the organization was Angels of Life.

Kris was married to a wonderful woman name Katy. Kris had told her about what had happened to him at the church in Los Angeles. She believed him and realized how much it had effected his life. They had a four-year-old son named Adam. Kris had not given up on music, either. He wrote music and sang in the church choir, as well as at a local club every Friday and Saturday night. He had sold several of his songs, one of which had won a Grammy. That one had been called "Give You Life." Kris knew he would never forget Adam's sacrifice. He felt he was now doing what he should to make himself worthy of that sacrifice. He was also happy and he knew that was because he could feel Adam every day in his life, a soft, gentle presence that was just there, a presence that was pleased with what Kris had done with the gift he had been given. A single black feather sat behind glass in a mahogany frame on the wall in his office.

Summary - Adam and Kris are homeless and living on the streets of NYC. Living on the streets can be dangerous.
TRIGGER WARNING: Homelessness, Mention of Rape

Adam pulled back the faded blue blanket that made the front of their shelter and crawled in beside Kris with some fruit he had scavenged from the dumpster out back of the grocery store around the corner. He had two oranges, a pear and four plums. He also had scored a whole box of donuts. "We'll eat like kings tonight," he told Kris, pulling him in for a hug and a kiss. Kris smiled at Adam and grabbed the pear.

"Good, cuz I'm starved!" He took a big bite out of the pear and grinned at Adam again. "Mmmmm! This is so good!" Adam felt his breath leave his body. It happened every time Kris smiled that crooked smile at him. He loved Kris with all his heart and was so glad they had found each other at that homeless shelter last year. They had been together ever since. Adam treasured every minute he got to spend with Kris, because, as homeless people, you never knew what today would bring. He smiled back at Kris and took a bite out of one of the plums. They both giggled and licked the juice off each other's chin.

Adam had been on the street since he was fourteen, Kris since he was fifteen. Adam was nineteen now and Kris was seventeen. Life was hard, but they worked as a team now and weren't alone anymore. It made a huge difference. Kris had a guitar he had taken with him when he fled his abusive family situation. Adam had been kicked out when his family realized he was gay. To make money for food and other necessities, Adam and Kris would go the "their" street corner almost every day, one near Grand Central Station. Kris would play his guitar and Adam would sing. Kris sang harmony. They were very good and always made a decent amount of money each day - enough to provide them with food and clothing and, occasionally, a cheap motel room for the night.

But, as the weather got colder, it was harder for the two of them to spend time out in the open, trying to sing and play guitar. People were also less likely to stop to listen to them and to give them money because it was too cold for them and they were in a hurry to get indoors. But Kris and Adam usually went to the corner for at least a couple of hours every day. Adam had a pair of old gloves he had found and a scarf he had bought in a dollar store. It was harder for Kris, since he couldn't wear gloves to play his guitar.

They hadn't gone to the corner for a couple of days, though, because Kris had come down with a cold and Adam insisted that he stay in their make-shift shelter and stay warm. Adam would only leave him to go scrounge for food. Then they would snuggle together for warmth. Their relationship wasn't sexual - yet. Adam refused to take that step because Kris was still underage and he was still a virgin. Adam had lost his virginity when he was raped in a homeless shelter one night when he was seventeen. He wanted Kris' first time to be everything his hadn't been.

Two nights later, when Adam came back with some sandwiches he had rescued from behind a McDonalds, he found a large man outside their shelter holding a knife and confronting Kris. "Hey!" he yelled, "What's going on here? Leave him alone! Fuck off and leave us alone! We're not doing anything to hurt you or anyone else. Get out!"

The man turned his attention to Adam and sneered, "You sound so tough, but I think my knife trumps your bravado. My shelter isn't nearly as cozy as yours is, so I believe I'll take those blankets and that pillow. I also need a new scarf and some gloves. I'll take those sandwiches, too. Come on! Hand 'em over! Throw in that guitar while you're at it. I can pawn that for a few dollars. Hurry up, be quick! I don't have all night."

One of the first lessons you learn on the street is that you never play the hero. If someone is threatening you and they have the upper hand, give them what they want and hope they go away, leaving you in one piece. So Adam and Kris handed over all their meager possessions to the man. He snatched them and took off down the street, disappearing in the darkness. Kris sank down on the bare ground and started crying. Adam knelt in front of him, wrapping his arms around the smaller man. "Hey, Kris. It's ok. He didn't hurt either of us and we can always replace what he took. It might take a while, but we'll be ok."

"No," Kris sobbed, "It won't be all right. He took my guitar! I've had that guitar since I was eight. It's been the one constant in my life. It's a piece of me. And now that piece is gone forever." Adam hugged him tight and rocked back and forth until Kris' sobs quieted and he fell into a restless sleep.

The next day, Kris was still fighting his cold, so Adam told him he was going to go to their corner and sing a capella and see if he could make some money to buy some food. Kris didn't answer, he just huddled in the corner and nodded. Adam bit his lip, worried about Kris. He quickly left the shelter.

Several hours later, Kris was dozing when the blanket was pulled aside and Adam entered. He had a big smile on his face. "I have something for you that might cheer you up," he told Kris. Kris sighed and sat up. "First, I, uh, found some blankets to keep us warm again. Then I made enough money to actually buy a sub for us to share. It's your favorite - meatball with cheese. Then, I had enough money left over to buy...this!" He pulled his surprise out from behind his back. It was Kris' guitar. Kris jumped up, his eyes wide as saucers.

" found it! Oh, my gosh! I can't believe it! My guitar! How did you do it?" Kris gently took the guitar from Adam and strummed it softly. Again, Adam felt breathless.

"The guy said he was going to pawn it, so after I made a decent amount of money, I went searching pawn shops around here for it. It was in the third one I looked in." Kris set the guitar down and threw himself into Adam's arms.

"I don't know what to say. Thank you so much. You've put the missing piece back in my heart. You were the other one that I didn't even know was missing until I met you. Now, I feel complete again." They kissed, then settled down on their new blankets to eat their subs. After that, Kris played his guitar and they sang for a bit, then fell asleep in each others arms.

I don't know why most bingo cards have a big gap before the actual bingo card comes up. I tried to finagle the coding, but it didn't work. Sorry.

Cotton Candy Bingo

There was no getting around it, I had to go to the store today for groceries and cat food. I had nothing but Ramen noodles left and that's all I had eaten in three days. The very thought of eating any more of them was making me feel nauseous. BUT my car was covered with several inches of snow and it was only around 20°F out and it was windy as heck. The cold and the cold wind really bother my breathing. But I had no choice, so I went out and started the car, then cleaned it off in three sessions. I did a bit, then got in the car to catch my breath and warm up. I finally got it done and got to Wally World. Shopping went fine. The roads were fine and I made it home just fine.

Tomorrow is the last day to post entries in the Cotton Candy Bingo Challenge. I have three stories written, but was having trouble coming up with ideas for the last two. Last night, after I went to bed, while I was petting my babies, the ideas just came to me. Two great ideas, one for each story. Now I just have to get them written and then post all five. I can do this! I'm so happy. Now I have food and inspiration! :)

Last night I finally finished my fic for the Kradam Holiday Fest. I've written a lot of Kradam stories and even wrote one that was over 7,000 words, but most of them are between 1,000 and 2,000. Well, it seems I went batshit crazy with this one because it was 17,410 words. Where on Earth did all that come from? I have no idea. It was even longer, but I went back and read through it one last time and cut out maybe a couple hundred words. I'm pleasantly surprised and proud of myself for finding it in me to write so much.

We're going to celebrate all the things that made us fall in love with Kris and Adam in the first place.

You better all be there, or else.
